Missy - If I accidentally step on your foot and ask for your forgiveness in doing so, then I would hope that you would do just that - forgive. If I am truly sorry for doing so, I will also do whatever it took to help make that pain easier for you. If, however, on the other hand, I step on your foot with the full intention of causing you pain - then my apology means absolutely nothing. Because my intent WAS to do you harm.

I continue to struggle with the right or wrong with us using the n-word. I just know from experience that when "others" have used the n-word when referring to or at me, their intentions where to cause much, much more than the sting of an accidental step on the foot.

I think that's just an excuse that we use to justify bad behavior. It's also the reason that we won't ever be able to completely eradicate the offensive use of the word. Intent has little to no affect on impact. If you accidentally step on my foot, it doesn't just any less because you say you didn't mean to hurt me. Fact is, it hurts the exact same.

Missy - point well taken. I suspect that our continued use of the n-word will remain an issue for us. But, to me it like "I can talk about my man but you can't". Maybe its not the usage but the intent of the user. For me, there in lies the difference.

I posted about this when it was first reported that the show had gone into production.
One of the things that amazes me about this that it took an audio tape for people to see his racism. If you had viewed even five minutes of his show, his treatment of native Hawaiians makes it more than clear that he has as problem with POC. We need to start the fight against racism even before we are the center of it. His racist behavior towards native Hawaiians should have been enough for people to be up in arms.
