Sojourner's Place

old school fridays...kid groups

Posted by SjP in ,

Ooh Child! This one was hard for me. I figure that New Edition, Boys II Men, and even the Jackson Five will be the primary OSF picks this week. And of course, ya'll know me, I generally pick something that is really, really, really Old School...and this week is no different. Hope you enjoy this OSF cut by the The First Family of Soul the Five Stairsteps.

Threw this one in just for good measure. He didn't need a whole group...did it all himself... Now he's all grown up and still doing it all by hisself!

Speak the Truth!

Obliged to you for hearing me, and now old Sojourner's Place ain't got nothing more to say.

P.S.

Mrs. Grapevine and MarvelousOne are the creators of this bloggie meme. Here’s how to play:

Oooh child indeed! Hands down, this may be the best true old school pick this week! It is a song that makes you feel better. Would have been a good pick for inspiration last week too.

And you're right, Little Stevie didn't need ANY help. He is his own group!

Have a great weekend!

Little Stevie! He definitely did not need a group. He's amazing all by himself.

I don't know if I've ever heard the Five Stairsteps before, the video won't play for me. :(

Great picks this week as you always do. I like, I like.

You know Stevie is a group unto himself!

Wonderful choices Sojourner. They both bring a smile to my face. You took it way back and Little Stevie was brilliant then and he is to this day.

I love that song Oh Child but never knew who sang it and would have never thought it was a "kids group".

Have a blessed week.

I was a old teenager when these guys came a long.My younger siblings loved them and i was still dancing. The teenage age group of my youth was Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers and the Bop was the dance. Goody Goody was my favorite song, that young man had a voice. thanks Sojourner! going to get out my CD's.

Oh my how my daddy would walk around singing "oh child" the song always make me kinda sad listening to it as a child, I'm not sure why just one of those things I guess, and one can never go wrong with Stevie.

Ooh Child is my husband's favorite song, and when Tupac remixed it, I was on cloud 9, our favorite song with my favorite rapper.

I forgot Stevie started off young. He has one of the longest successful careers.

MsMarva - this cut reminds me so much of my cousin. She loved this song!
__________
VT - you make me blush...much obliged!
__________
SDG - much obliged...my old school is really old school...way back in the day. Glad you enjoyed them.
__________
Danielle - I'd completely forgotten about them until they popped up on YouTube! Then I knew they would be perfect for this week. And just could leave Stevie out!
__________
Georgia - I remember Frankie because my "older" cousins use to really like him. But, the Five Stairsteps...well, that's my era. Brought back memories.
__________
TBG - did you read my response to Georgia above...LOL.
__________
Mrs G - I liked the Tupac remix, too. Course, not much I don't like by Pac...

Sometimes doing these things is like a history lesson. I knew Stevie started very young. "The Five Stairsteps" song is awesome. I knew the song I hear it all the time, but never knew who did it.
