Sojourner's Place
Got some things, that I just feel like sharing, rambling, or ranting about. So here goes:
1. Don't have to tell you that these are pretty rough economic times. But, if your able, PLEASE buy some stocks. Like the POTUS said a few weeks ago, now is the time while you can still get into the market relatively cheap. I'm not talking about thousands of dollars - just a couple of hundred. Trust me, you'll be very glad you did.
2. I know that close only counts when playing horse shoes, but hey - that Korean missile came a little bit too close for comfort. Look, Il has been telling us for the last 7 years that he had a missile aimed right at our back yard. At what point in time do we take him seriously? Do we have to wait until he's knocking on the door? Help me understand why we and the UN just don't take him out!
3. Columbine, Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois University, Pittsburgh, Binghamton and the countless other violent killings that we don't see on national news were all committed by deranged people with guns. Yet, any real discussion regarding gun control in this Country always seem to end with the cliche"Guns don't kill people. People kill people". Although a true statement, it should be amended to "people kill people with guns". And the fact of the matter is that all too often the gun in the hand of some deranged person is the reason why innocent people are killed. This is a sad commentary for our Country when the right to bear arms is overshadowed by the right to live. None of these victims did anything to cause their deaths - but, the right of the assailants to bear arms was certainly the result.
4. The Grim Sleeper: I learned a few weeks ago from my blogging sister, Ms Lady Deborah, about a serial killer that has been murdering Black women in the Los Angeles area for nearly 25 years. Many bloggers in the Afrosphere voiced their outrage over the fact that a killer has been running rapid but under the radar of mainstream media. The rants and rumblings must have paid off as CNN now has dedicated an entire site to this case. They are requesting assistance in helping to solve the case of the Grim Sleeper. I know...I know..., but now at least the information is out there and lets all pray that this maniac is caught before someone else dies.
5. Damn! What you want from the man? He got a trillion dollars to help jump start the world economy - what more you want? Personally, I wondering what else he might have accomplished if he'd been at the top of his game. He reminded me of that game Michael played when he had the flu and only scored 38!
6. C'mon now! Let Madonna adopt the child. What's the big deal? Am I missing something here?
7. Troy Anthony$ Davis is still waiting to hear about his fate; the Scott Sisters got life sentences for allegedly stealing $11; and Chioma Gray and Adjir Desar are still missing. And that's all I got to say about that!
Well, that's all for now...ya'll have a wonderful and blessed week!
Obliged to you for hearing me,
and now old SjP ain't got nothin' more to say...

some things on my mind #6
Posted by SjP in golliwog watch, politically speaking, potus 'nem, some things on my mind, trophy room
Got some things, that I just feel like sharing, rambling, or ranting about. So here goes:
1. Gotta start off with some much obliges to Mimi for presenting old SjP with theNoblesse Oblige Award and StaciPC and underOvr (aka The U) for Life is Grand Award. I will be passing on each of these awards in a future post, but I had to take the time to let Mimi, Staci, and The You know just how much I appreciate receiving them. I am always humbled when someone comments on this spot let alone finds it worthy of such an honor. Much Obliged to You All. Very Much Obliged!
2. God took six days to create a perfect world and it took George Bush 2,920 completely bring it down. Seeing as how President Obama is neither God nor George Bush, don't you think he should be given a little play here. After all the man ain't been in office but 42 days. Give That One some slack! He good...but he ain't that good. May take him a little more time to learn how to walk on water!
3. Personally, I am somewhat taken aback by all of the focus - good and bad - on what First Lady Michelle Obama wears or does not wear on her arms. People are unemployed, underemployed, broke, homeless, and hungry. But, yet on any given day you can read or listen to very heated debates about what the First Lady wears. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! But, what really gets me about all of this "coverage" is that it intentionally minimizes her as a First Lady who wants to have a positive impact in this role. And yet, regardless of the platform on which she speaks - the headline is always what she is wearing.
Then there is always commentary about how "special" she is or is not. The bottom line here is that in most ways - save one - Michelle Obama is just like any other woman who is supportive of her husband's dreams and endeavors who dotes on her children wishing and praying for only the best for them who attempts to maintain some semblance of sanity in her home and have a career. How many women do you know just like her? They are to be applauded for the untiring efforts to keep it all together. The difference for Michelle Obama is that she is now doing what she's been doing for the last 16 years in a fish bowl for all to see, watch, criticize, or laud over. And because of that fish bowl - maybe...just maybe...she is a role model for many African American women who thought only Claire Huxtable could "have it all".
So, to all those haters out there I say, leave the girl alone! When you become First Lady you do it the way you want to. In the meantime, let Michelle be Michelle and remember that while she don't walk on water either, she need some "sistah-support"!
4. A friend of mine was told me "that a lie is only a lie if you can get somebody to believe it". So, when Grose said that he was unaware of the racial stereotype that black people like watermelons and that he was making a joke of the stimulus plan by circulating the White House watermelon patch post card via email, he really wasn't lying. NO BODY BELIEVED HIS A$$ NO WAY! But, I warned ya'll that this kind of stuff was going to happen back in November. Told you to stock up on water cause there was going to be a lot of salty crackers around. Even though Grose has resigned, you gotta believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg. There will be much more to come. So, you better stock up on that water!
5. Octomom? Why? We know that she wasn't thinking - but what about the Doctor who made it all possible? I mean c'mon now! Just what did he expect to get out of this other than his medical license being revoked. Will somebody please tell her that Brad Pitt is taken and Angelina Jolie she is not!
6. Bobby Jindal: "I'll be the first to tell you I'm not nearly as good a speaker as the president. I think I removed any doubt of that Tuesday." (No shyt Dick Tracey and you lied on top of it!)
7. The 2012 London Olympics will be here before THEY know it! Remember, we are not the only ones fighting against racist and racial images. Those in the UK have to deal with it every day in the most overt ways. The golliwogs are sold opening throughout the UK and all too many do not see the harm in the creatures. Please, if you are so inclined please click the International Campaign Poster to the left to join the Fight Against these Effigies of Racial Hatred! Would also be much obliged if you would sign one or both of the petitions to ban the golliwog. You can find them here: UK Citizens: Go Here All Citizens of the World: Go Here
8. Well, guess I've ranted enough tonight. Gotta get a relatively good night's sleep to make to "my side of the plantation in the morning" where I have to deal with my very own Sarah Palin...wish me well!
Obliged to you for hearing me,

1. First things first. Much obliged to Revvy Rev and Regina for passing on the Emblem of the Helping Hand to me. I am deeply humbled with receiving it; but I am even more humbled that in receiving the Emblem that you have passed it on to some amazing bloggers (with the exception of one - ::smile::). Must admit, that in creating the Emblem, I never dreamed that I would also be a recipient. Much obliged! Very much obliged! 2. Some of you may already know this - but, I just found out that there is a new formula being used to calculate FICO scores. From what I understand, this new formula caluculation went into effect on January 9th. I strongly suggest that you get your copies of all three credit reports asap to see if your score has changed for the better or worse. One missed or late payment will be graded differently than if you have three missed payments. That's a good thing. But, if you been trying to boost your score by being listed on your Mamma's Visa that has a $5K credit limit, well that ain't gonna work anymore. You can check out more on this here. 3. Question. If you are employed at a state educational institution and your governor just told you that in addition to having to take a 6% salary reduction AND that your institution's budget was going to be cut by damn near 40%, what would you do? Somebody please tell me - because I'm seriously waiting for the punchline cause this has got to be a JOKE! Right? 4. Is George Bush an idiot or what? Maybe he took a plane to Fantasy Island and he thinks he's still there. Or maybe he's just living in La-La Land. Or maybe he really believes that he did the right thing these last 8 years. Or maybe, he's just an idiot! 5. I was in a fantasy football league this year for the first time. Got Moss and Brady in the draft. Brady got hurt in the first game. DAMN. Then I got Hasselbeck! Oh HAIL Naw! Had to get rid of him quick because of his wife. So, I pick up Cassel cause of Randy. Every body (all men in the league) laughed their butts off...until MY TEAM WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP! Guess who's laughing now! 6. I'm very proud Michelle Obama and admire her greatly, but I still don't care about the dress she's wearing to the inaugrual; or that her mother is moving into the WH; or that she just quit her job. What I do care about, however, she is a real-life Claire Huxtable and about to be First Lady of the United States! Get Over It! You Go Girl! 7. Question. Now, I don't get into pop-culture much, but I've noticed that two of the Beyonce' cuts always playing in my house don't seem to be "telling the story" of a new bride. I mean "if I was a boy" and "put a ring on it"? Maybe its just me... 8. Somebody please explain to me what is this infinity that the US has with Israel? I don't even pretend to understand. But, it sure as hell seems to me that they are doing some real FUS in Gaza and I'm not seeing too much difference between what they're doing and what the so called terrorist do. Can somebody explain. 9. Cambell Brown is getting on my nerves. I wish Roland would just tell her off. Oh! I forgot! She's pregnant so maybe her hormones are out of wack. But, lately she's been real biased and full of bull! 10. Much obliged: Ras Love Princess, Tabitha Chooses Bliss, Shirl, MilesPerHour, TakeAction, The Roots Of Humanity Are Within, Lisa C, The Synergistic Pen blackgivesback Aunt Jemima's Revenge–Lil' Red X, licia31, nikki,Delilah, Sharon, MacDaddy, –Bent Society: The Origin of Curmudgeonly Criminology - is feared by the bad and loved by the good!, iriegal, LadyLucaze, Tom Sawyer, Revvy Rev, Blog Queen, mikielanne, Regina, BVB, clnmike, Janet Shan, msladydeborah, Hagar's Daughter and Shelia for accepting my invitation to my good towels. My good towels are reserved for company...and you company. 10. The inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama is Tuesday and I have a front row seat! Right in front of my TV and I can't wait! Got plenty of tissue!
Got some things, that I just feel like sharing, rambling, or ranting about. So here goes:

Got some things, that I just feel like sharing, rambling, or ranting about. So here goes:
1. I know its been a minute since you've seen anything other than a meme-type post here at SjP's. But life on "my side of the plantation" has simply been making it really difficult to keep up. But even though I've been a tad bit out of sight - not responding to your comments or leaving comments - I'm still here and still swoop by most of my favorite spots on a daily basis. Much obliged for your patience and understanding. I'll be "back in stride again" soon!
2. Speaking of "my side of the plantation", would somebody - anybody - tell me just why the massa and his overseers just can't ever seem to tell the damn truth! Folks are going to get laid off - that's the truth! The lay-off list has already been compiled - and that's the truth! The list was compiled to get rid of some dead weight, whistle blowers, truth sayers, and to make room for more ass kissers - and that's the truth! And some on the list will receive a holiday greeting with a post script saying that their services are no longer needed - and that's the truth! So why in the hell are the massas and overseers continuing to lie. I guess Kunte was right "they still toubob"!
3. If I read one more article, one more blog post, or one more email about what Michelle Obama plans to wear to the inauguration I am simply going to SCREAM!!! I mean this is simply ridiculous! C'mon now, isn't there anything more important to be concerned about relative to Michelle other than who is going to design her damn dress! Oh, yeah, I guess there is because there are just as many articles, blog posts, and emails circulating about how she has just thrown the feminist movement under the bus for planning to continue to put her children and marriage first while in the White House and forgo her career; or how she needs to get paid for being First Lady; or how she'll have to turn her "blackness" off while being First Lady. PLEASE! GIVE ME A BREAK!
4. When the shoe fits, throw it! Remember when he lied and said that the Iraqis would greet us as liberators with the overthrow of Saddam? Well it seems that Bush was greeted with not one but two shoes aimed to hit his ass right upside the head during a surprise visit to Iraq. Showing the sole of one's shoe or even throwing a shoe, in the Arab world, is a special tool to insult or affront. As the local television reporter threw the shoe at Bush he yelled: "This is a farewell kiss, dog!" and "This is the end!" I don't know about you, but I think that's a gesture that puts a bird flip to shame and is far more effective!
Did you notice how long it took the Secret Service to come to the rescue to protect the leader of the Free World? I ain't saying...but, I'm saying...
5. So Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested last week for trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat which belonged to President-Elect Barack Obama. Now, I ain't saying this is not a crime or that he shouldn't have done it, but... I was born in Illinoisan and lived in that state up to about a decade ago, so I'm well aware of the "colorful political" history of the state that is certainly not devoid of corruption. From money found in shoe boxes to immediate past governor - incarcerated for illegal sale of government licenses, contracts and leases by state employees - now requesting a pardon from Dubya, Illinois can no doubt write the book on corruption. But, c'mon now, politicians have been buying and selling favors since the beginning of time - but generally they are called presidents, governors, senators, representatives, and lobbyists. PLEASE!
6. And no Governor Blagojevich did not have prayer from at least 3 Illinois ministers? And two of them are African American. But, have no fear Jeremiah wasn't invited.
7. And speaking of Illinois, all I can really say is "Po' JJJ". Seems like his vie for Barack's vacated is all but over. Unless he's able to win the special election that is sure to come its pretty clear that JJJ will continue to represent the district in which I grew up in the House. I don't know - but, do you think that this was all in the "master plan"? Just something that makes you go "hmmm".
8. Damn it! I forgot to change my fantasy football team roster and the games have already started! Yeah, I'm in the play-off. Finished second in the regular season. But, now it looks like I'm about to be finished after today...oh well!
9. Last Sunday I had the pleasure of delivering a keynote address at an event that recognized African American students for their academic achievements. This was a great honor and one which I accepted quite humbly. But can anyone tell me why I was asked to include in my speech (2 days before I was to deliver it) the importance of family involvement and the dismal statistics about the rate at which African American high school aged students drop out and land in justice system. Look! Maybe its just me. But, I've been delivering keynote-type addresses for more years than I can count and truly did not appreciate being "told" what to say. And second, and much more important, why in the hell would I remind my audience of those things they already know. So, instead - I did what I always do - and that was to deliver a message from my heart that was hopefully uplifting, humorous, congratulatory, and inspiring. I guess it was o.k. cause when I was finished everybody rose to there feet clapping!
10. Damn it! That's his name! Barack Hussein Obama! Get over it!
11. Only 11 days before Christmas and I don't even have the decorations up yet! What does that tell you?
Obliged to you for hearing me,
and now old SjP ain't got nothin' more to say...

Got some things, that I just feel like sharing, rambling, or ranting about. So here goes:
1. It's been months since I've "seen" Danielle Vyas of Modern Musings. Danielle was very involved in the Am I Not Human? and LaVena Johnson campaigns and she was always a regular on OSFs. Anybody know where she at? I've dropped emails and comments, but I've heard nothing since September...
2. Still making that list of Blogging Brothas. Where y'all at? Much obliged Revvy Rev for checking in; and Ugly Black John I got you covered.
3. What's up with Proposition 8? Back in June, I asked the question: Is Gay Marriage the Right Fight for African Americans? Since the passage of Prop 8 there has been much debate about the role African Americans had on its passing. Although, I have some issues with gay rights activists comparing their situation to those of African Americans, I do believe that individuals should not be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation. There must be equal protection under the law. So, having said that, it is my personal belief that when two single people of any sexual orientation enter into a long-term relationship that they should not be penalized because they are not "married".
4. What goes on in a home that results in an 8 year old killing two people including his father? Was it an accident? Was it premeditated? Doesn't matter "what" it "was" it only matters "that" it happened and there should be great concern and alarm as to "why" an 8 year old would or could do such a thing?
5. Wolf Blitzer asked Sarah Palin during an interview tonight if she had any advice for Michelle Obama on child-rearing in the White House. Excuse me? Since when did Sarah Palin become the cover girl for Parent's Magazine and why would anyone think that Michelle Obama would NEED to take any advice from her? PLEASE!!!
6. Anybody out there watch 48 Hours on A&E? If you do, you know that Memphis Homicide Sgt. Caroline Mason ain't no joke! But, tell me why they have to go all up in "girl friend's" house last night taking pictures of her walk-in closet full of Gucci, Louie, and every other "ouie". That just wasn't right!
7. ITS ALL THE KIDS FAULT! Seems that there's at least one Red Cross official is blaming the children for the second Haitian school collapsing in less than a week. You see, according to the official, children dancing and jumping in a musical...caused the building to partially collapse on its foundation. That's right blame it on the kids cause heaven forbid if we blame it on the folks who built the death traps in the first place!
8. Nineteen days ago Troy Davis received a 25 day stay of execution. There is still time, and if you are so inclined, to appeal to he state of Georgia to do the responsible thing and prevent the execution of Troy Davis. You can write a letter to the editor calling on Georgia to stop the execution of Troy Davis or call on the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles to reconsider its previous decision and grant clemency to Troy Davis.
9. Nine days ago, history was made!

Got some things, that I just feel like sharing, rambling, or ranting about. So here goes:
1. We are all deeply saddened by the tragedy that has befallen Jennifer Hudson and her family. We all need to remember that God puts nothing on us that we can't bear and this too, shall come to pass.
But, I must ask: How many other "Jennifer Hudsons" are out there who have experienced a death or kidnapping of their loved-one but because they are NOT famous their tears go unnoticed and unreported? While the murders of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother, and nephew is just horrible - and I pray for her and her family - my heart is also heavy with the hundreds of missing African-American children for whom there is no out-pouring of media coverage. Are their lives no less important? Are they no less loved? This is the reason SjP's will continue to use Wordless Wednesday's to alert all Sojourners visiting here that there are those who are Black and Missing who are not only loved but are also NOT FORGOTTEN.
2. So, the Ice Queen is a Diva? Tell me, what gave it away?
3. Much obliged to all "using my good towels". Got more to spare, so feel free to use them cause they for compny only!
4. Please join in the Worldwide Day of Prayer and Fasting on Monday, Nov. 3. While the intent of this prayer vigual is to pray for Senator Obama's safety, I urge Sojourners pray for all of the candidates in this race. And most of all for God's will to be done in this election, our Country, and the world.
5. Seems that Divas and DJs continues to be the booking agent for Shirley Q. Liquor aka Charles Knipp. Despite protests, petitions, and just plain outrage, this self-proclaimed actor, comedian, nurse, minister and drag queen, continues to denigrate African-American women while performing for his adoring fans. This real a$$hole has rejuvenated his website which you can see here; and if you're really a glutton for punishment - here's his My Space Page. And guess what - he's supporting Lt. Dan and the Ice Queen, so what's that tell you!
6. On Friday of last week, the Hon. R. Barclay Surrick dismissed the lawsuit brought by Philip Berg's lawsuit claiming that Barack Obama was NOT eligible to be the POTUS. Berg's suit claimed that:a. Obama is either a citizen of his father’s native Kenya, by birth there or through operation of U.S. law; or b. that Obama became a citizen of Indonesia by relinquishing his prior citizenship (American or Kenyan) when he moved there with his mother in 1967. c. Either way, in Plaintiff’s opinion, Obama does not have the requisite qualifications for the Presidency that the Natural Born Citizen Clause mandates. d.The Amended Complaint alleges that Obama has actively covered up this information and that the other named Defendants are complicit in Obama’s cover-up.
Thank goodness Surrick saw this lawsuit for what it was - a pile of crap - dismissing it on the on grounds that it lacked standing.
7. 7 DAYS UNTIL CHANGE!

Got some things on my mind tonight, that I just feel like sharing, rambling, or ranting about. So here goes:
1. Barack's maternal grandmother is gravely ill. As a result, he has suspended all campaign appearances for Thursday and Friday of this week to be with her in Hawaii. Remember he and his family in your prayers as he is no doubt facing a very difficult and personal time in his life. "Thy will be done...Amen".
2. Much Obliged Pjazzypar for honoring SjP's with a Brilliant Weblog Award! The award has been place proudly and humbly in the sidebar.
3. The new "terms and phrases of endearment": liberal; socialist; pallin' around with terrorist; not one of us; American values; elitist; declining property values; sub-prime mortgage borrowers; and oh yeah...That One just to name a few.
4. I voted on Saturday as did My Best Half and the two young-SjPs. We're fortunate to live in an early voting state. Yobachi, of BlackPerspective.net, has been keeping a very close eye on what's going on across the nation as the voting has begun. Check him out. And a new sojourner to SjP's, RevvyRev, left some very important information about the reasons to vote early. You can read his comment here.
5. Colin Powell is not the only Republican or McCain supporter to break ranks or announce their disappointment with the McCain/Palin ticket. Even Michelle Malkin is jumping ship. Don't believe me, check it out here. Much obliged RevvyRev for dropping this dime.
6. Rush Limbaugh is an a Simple Simon A$$ Mutha F*cka! (I just love that line from American Gangster and it seemed a perfect time to use it here)
7. Saw the Ice Queen on SNL (why'd she do that?) and listened to her today. I say we need to find out who she be pallin around with cause she got a little too much rhythm to be from Alaska and when the last time you heard somebody who ain't Black talk about "calling somebody out". I'm just saying that maybe she know more about Black folk than she letting on...
8. Now we know why it the Ice Queen had to go to 5 different universities to get a degree and Lt. Dan graduate 5th from the bottom from Annapolis. How do you include 40% of unemployed Americans in the 95% of employed Americans for whom Obama's tax break is targeted? Must be a return to the new math taught back in the day.
9. Isn't the photo for this post amazing. It a self-portrait of Ash entitled "Pop". I'd be much obliged if Ash allows me to continue to use it when I have "Some Things on My Mind". Please check her site out. Its truly amazing and soul-stirring.
10. Who gives a shyt about Joe the Plumber? He don't represent me and my uppity-negroid-huxtable-type family. Oh, my bad! I guess that's the point....
11. Since I have never voted for a Republican nominee for president (yes, I voted for a second term of Jimmy Carter), why would anybody think I'd vote for one now? Hey! I'm just asking..
12. 150,000,000 dollars in one month!
13. 100,000 in St. Louis to see Obama!
14. 14 DAYS TO CHANGE!
Obliged to you for hearing me,
and now old SjP ain't got nothin' more to say...
