sunday inspirations...a dream deferred?

Posted by SjP in ,

It was a beautiful summer day. The sun was shining as tens of thousands of people stood watching and listening in anticipation of what was to come. And as he began to speak, one can only imagine the electricity filling the mall that day. He spoke of challenges...he spoke of equality...he spoke of justice...he presented a dream. A dream deferred.

But, that dream did not "dry up like a raisin in the sun". It was a dream that festered and began to run infecting all who heard him speak that day. Infecting all who would hear of him after that day. On that day, he told the citizenry that the stench of bigotry and racism could and would no longer be tolerated. He told the citizenry that history could not be re-written in such a way as to sugar-coat the horrors resulting from man's inhumanity to man. He challenged all those listening and those who would some day listen to sag not or give up because in his dream he saw a better day. In his dream he saw freedom.

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore-- And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

I Have a Dream
Dr. King, it's coming true

Sunday Inspirations, is the meme created in honor of my Mother for Mother's Day 2008 and is just one way to help get us through the week ahead, the trials we may face, and yes, to say Thank Ya and testify! I hope that you participate and share with us your Sunday Inspirations. Your weekly contribution may very well be the inspiration that someone else may need and has been looking for.

The Rules: 1. Anyone can participate. 2. You may post a video, poem, religious verse, song, story, picture, ANYTHING that has given you inspiration and the motivation to go on. Just make sure not to offend anyone. 3. Add your name to the meme list so others can be inspired.4. Be and get inspired and be sure to comment.

Obliged to you for hearing me,
and now old SjP ain't got nothin' more to say...

Look where we have been brought from Sjp! I know you can relate to this comment.

I think about those days and how difficult it was to live through those times. We know oh too well how ugly it really was in this nation. What has become the video for Eyes On The Prize was our childhood reality.

We still have a lot to accomplish. We are not done by a long shot. But I think that if MLK were here during a time such as this-he would be pleased with the way not just our people responded. He would be equally pleased with the people outside of our race who have responded to the national election and other issues.

If MLK was here-I suspect he would of been in Oakland to see to the needs of the Grant Family.
Then on the nation's capital for the celebration!

It is on girlfriend! I am so excited! And I am kind of full too.
