6 sojourners hollin' back

Happy WW! I take it that the photo on the right must be the Obama children being escorted to their first day of school in Washington DC?

I invite your blog readers to share in thoughts about a piece from Elizabeth Catlett...

The more things change the more things stay the same. This is an interesting and compelling comparison.

Happy WW!!!

Well I wouldnt compare the two, the circumstances are very different, but those differences is what is highlighted with this.

This is a powerful juxtaposition. It's amazing how such different circumstances can result in the same scenario, little Black girls being escorted to school by security officers.

I remember seeing the original of the painting on the left at the Normal Rockwell Museum. It was back in '89 and they were having an exhibit of his civil rights paintings. There were some pretty thought-provoking paintings there. Thanks for reminding me of that work.

@ Villager, Yes the one on the right is of the Obama children being escorted by the SS.

@ UT, guess that's one way to look at it, but just think of the circumstances leading to the escort for the child in the first picture as opposed to the Obama's in the second...

@ Mike, no comparison except for the actual visual image of being escorted to school.

@ BoC, kind of sends chills...

Yep... I agree with Urban Thought.
While under different circunstances - the comparison can be seen as both progress and stagnation.
I gotta' put those up in my house.
