Sojourner's Place

sunday inspirations...pray for peace

Posted by SjP in ,

For the past eight days news reports, live coverage, and electronic and print media have overwhelmed us with the conflict occuring in the Middle East. Now, I do not purport to understand the "why" of this situation. I do not purpost to know who is "right" or who is "wrong". But, what I do know is that innocent lives are being lost because the descendents of Abraham can not seem to get along. And as such, the entire world looks on with baited breath wishing and hoping for an end to a conflict filling the streets of Gaza with blood.

So, I am calling all those visiting here today, to pray for peace, not only in the Middle East but in and for our world. Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or Buddist...we must all pray for peace.

Global Prayers for Peace
Christian
Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be known as the Children of God. But I say to you that hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To those who strike you on the cheek offer the other also, and from those who take away your cloak, do not withhold your coat as well. Give to everyone who begs from you, and of those who take away your goods, do not ask them again. And as you wish that others would to do you,do so to them.
Christian
Love your enemies,do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. Blessed be the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God.
Hindu
Oh God, lead us from the unreal to the Real.Oh God, lead us from darkness to light. Oh God, lead us from death to immortality. Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all.O Lord God Almighty may there be peace in Celestial regions. May there be peace on earth. May the waters be appeasing.May herbs be wholesome, and may trees and plants bring peace to all. May all beneficent beings bring peace to us. May thy Vedic Law propagate peace all through the world.May all things be a source of peace to us. And may thy peace itself bestow peace on all.And may that peace come to me also.
Jewish
Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, that we may walk the paths of the most high. And we shall beat our swords into ploughshares, and our spears into pruning hooks. Nations shall not lift up sword against nation - neither shall they learn war any more. And none shall be afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts has spoken.
Native American
O Great spirit of our Ancestors, I raise my pipe to you; To your messengers in the four winds, and to Mother Earth who provides for your children. Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other, so that they may grow with peace in mind.Let us learn to share all good things that you provide for us on this Earth.
Muslim
In the name of Allah the beneficent, the merciful. Praise be to the Lord of the Universe, who has created us and made us into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other. If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things. And the servants of God, most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in Humility, and when we address them, we say "PEACE."
Muslim
Praise be to the Lord of the Universe, who has created us and made us into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not despise each other.
Zoroastrian
We pray to God that understanding will triumph over ignorance, that generosity will triumph over indifference, that trust will triumph over contempt, and that truth will triumph over falsehood.
For Peace in Iraq (and in Gaza)
Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but You. Great and wonderful are Your works, wondrous are your ways. Thank You for the many splendoured variety of Your creation. Thank You for the many ways we affirm Your presence and purpose, and the freedom to do so. Forgive our violation of Your creation. Forgive our violence toward each other. We stand in awe and gratitude for Your persistent love for each and all of Your children: Christian, Jew, Muslim, as well as those with other faiths. Grant to all and our leaders attributes of the strong; mutual respect in words and deed, restraint in the exercise of power, and the will for peace with justice, for all. Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but You.
...and Let the Church Say: Amen

Obliged to you for hearing me,
and now old SjP ain't got nothin' more to say...

7 sojourners hollin' back

My prayers to the innocent lives of being lost out there. As for theIsreal fiasco, it is one of those sitituations were the root cause can no longer be addressed because of the time that has passed.

There should have never been a state of Isreal, but it is too late now to take it back.

When both sides can agree to that and the rest of the world can stay out of their affairs they night be able to move on.

Amen to that. I absolutely agree w/you.

Neve Shalom - Wahat al-Salam
נא, נא, זה חייב להסתים
رجاء, رجاء-وهذا يجب أن ينتهي

I really enjoy reading your informative blog. Thanks for sharing!

Mike I agree the root cause is so buried it can not logically be addressed.
Much prayer and divine intervention is needed for this mess.

That's a hard prayer to make.
I pray when I have a hope that even the impossible can happen.
The anti-Christ will bring about a false peace - that's what I'm worried about.

I love the Global Prayers for Peace -- its so interesting to see the same message from different perspectives. If only we heeded them globally...

I'm so curious to learn where did you find the Native American prayer?

@ Mike, I have to admit that I really don't understand why it is so important for the US to be Isreali allies and take their side. Keep saying I'm going to research the modern day reasons - although I still believe it was Abraham's fault for that wandering eye...

@ Truth and Take Action much obliged for stopping by. Please don't be a stranger as the doors are always open here at SjP's.

@ Regina, much prayer and divine intervention... Amen to that!

@ UBJohn, the prophecy regarding peace in the middle east can never be denied or ignored - that is true. The impossible can/does always happen as a result of prayer. Remember "faith a size of a mustard seed"...

@ Laura, glad to "see you". Hope all is well with you and yours. Here's the link for the NA prayer: http://www.angelfire.com/md/elanmichaels/napeace.html
Each prayer has a hyperlink.
