sunday inspirations...pray for peace
Posted by SjP in {meme} sunday inspirations, war ain't no card game
For the past eight days news reports, live coverage, and electronic and print media have overwhelmed us with the conflict occuring in the Middle East. Now, I do not purport to understand the "why" of this situation. I do not purpost to know who is "right" or who is "wrong". But, what I do know is that innocent lives are being lost because the descendents of Abraham can not seem to get along. And as such, the entire world looks on with baited breath wishing and hoping for an end to a conflict filling the streets of Gaza with blood.
Global Prayers for Peace
Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be known as the Children of God. But I say to you that hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To those who strike you on the cheek offer the other also, and from those who take away your cloak, do not withhold your coat as well. Give to everyone who begs from you, and of those who take away your goods, do not ask them again. And as you wish that others would to do you,do so to them.
Love your enemies,do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. Blessed be the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God.
Oh God, lead us from the unreal to the Real.Oh God, lead us from darkness to light. Oh God, lead us from death to immortality. Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all.O Lord God Almighty may there be peace in Celestial regions. May there be peace on earth. May the waters be appeasing.May herbs be wholesome, and may trees and plants bring peace to all. May all beneficent beings bring peace to us. May thy Vedic Law propagate peace all through the world.May all things be a source of peace to us. And may thy peace itself bestow peace on all.And may that peace come to me also.
Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, that we may walk the paths of the most high. And we shall beat our swords into ploughshares, and our spears into pruning hooks. Nations shall not lift up sword against nation - neither shall they learn war any more. And none shall be afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts has spoken.
O Great spirit of our Ancestors, I raise my pipe to you; To your messengers in the four winds, and to Mother Earth who provides for your children. Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other, so that they may grow with peace in mind.Let us learn to share all good things that you provide for us on this Earth.
In the name of Allah the beneficent, the merciful. Praise be to the Lord of the Universe, who has created us and made us into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other. If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things. And the servants of God, most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in Humility, and when we address them, we say "PEACE."
Praise be to the Lord of the Universe, who has created us and made us into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not despise each other.
We pray to God that understanding will triumph over ignorance, that generosity will triumph over indifference, that trust will triumph over contempt, and that truth will triumph over falsehood.

daddy, you never told me
Posted by SjP in i sing american 2, sojourner's salute, war ain't no card game
I wanted to do something special for this Veteran's Day in honor of my Father, a Captain in the US Air Force. In doing so, I tried to find out what happened during the late 1950s that caused my father and others to go on "military maneuvers" to Goose Bay Labrador (Canada). So, I started surfing to see what I could find out.
Although I didn't find what I was looking for, I did learn some interesting facts about the "goings on" at the Chennault Air Force Base in Lake Charles, Louisiana where we were stationed .
Chennault Air Force Base was part of the Strategic Air Command. For many years SAC’s motto proclaimed, “Peace is Our Profession” and is considered by many the silent force that won the Cold War without a shot being fired.
The men of SAC had to endure the day-to-day experience of actually fighting the Cold War, the only war ever won without a shot being fired, but one that changed the world. Their achievement is without parallel in human history, but it has not been properly recognized.
I learned that there were two Wings of the Chennault Base: the 44th Bombardment Wing and the 68th Bombardment Wing. The 44th Bombardment Wing was activated at Chennault in 1951 to train B-29 crews for combat duty in Korea using TB-29 Superfortresses. From October 1951 to May 1952, the 44th trained all elements of the 68th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. By August 1952, the wing became a first-line strategic bombardment wing and by April 1953 air refueling missions were added. The Wing was discontinued and in 1961 it re-emerged as the 44th Strategic Missile Wing located at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota.
The 68th Bombardment Wing, activated in October 1951 at received its initial cadre of 16 personnel from the 44th Bombardment Wing and began training as a Reconnaissance Wing. It conducted strategic bombardment training from May 1954 to June 1963 and air refueling operations from May 1954 to September 1957. It was deployed at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom from June 14 to August 7, 1954 and at RAF Brize Norton, England from Sept 27, 1957 to January 8,1958. A fourth B-47 squadron, the 657th, was added on 1 December 1958. The 68th moved without personnel or equipment to North Carolina on April 15, 1963, where it replaced the 4241st Strategic Wing at Seymour Johnson AFB and was equipped with B-52 Stratofortresses.
Now, I don't know what part my Daddy played in all of this, but I sure know that I had no idea - no idea at all - about the significance of this Air Force Base and its impact on the Korean and Cold Wars. I also know that he never, ever talked about those "maneuvers" in Goose Bay that occurred when I was about 3 or 4. He never talked about the 2 men who came by the house dressed in full uniform when I was about 9. And when he died, his death certificate said that he was a veteran of the Korean War and that he had been promoted to Captain upon his death. I thought it was a mistake of the military or some other misfortune that often results when divorce or estrangement occurs.
You know, I pretty full right now cause I just had no idea - until writing this post - just how important my Daddy's service to the Country may have been. I just thought he went into the "Service" because he was in Air Force ROTC in college and that's what Black men did back then.
Daddy! You never told me that you were a member of "the silent force that won the Cold War without a shot being fired". Now, how proud am I today? Very!
To All of our Veterens - past, present, and future - please accept this Sojourner's Salute and a Very Much Obliged for all you have or will give in the Service of Our Country. Much Obliged! Very Much Obliged!
...God Bless Our Troops and Bring Them Home!

News agencies are reporting and the Pentagon has just confirmed that the United States has attacked Syria. Syria is now accusing the US of launching cross-border helicopter raids from Iraq, killing nine civilians.
Syrian TV channel Al Dunia said a number of American helicopters attacked the village of Al Sukkiraya, on Syria's border point with Iraq. Witnesses said the attack targeted a house in the area in which a man and his four sons, and two other people were killed. "Nine people were killed and 14 wounded in the raid, which hit a group of builders while they were working," the television station said.

Theatre of the Absurd...seem illogical...The plots...move in a circle, ending the same way it began. The scenery is often unrecognizable, and to make matters worse, the dialogue never seems to make any sense.
North Korea, once characterized as one of the Axis of Evil by GWB, will be removed from the terrorism blacklist sometime today.
According to the Associated Press:
The removal is provisional and North Korea will be put back on the State Department's "state sponsors of terrorism" list if it doesn't comply with the inspections, they said. The diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity because the administration has not yet announced the step.
The expected delisting comes as North Korea moves to restart a disabled nuclear reactor and takes other provocative actions, including expelling U.N. inspectors and test firing missiles, that have heightened tensions and threaten the shaky disarmament agreement.
Haven't we heard this before? You know, this is all so absurd that I really ain't got nothin' more to say...
