I recently (cyberspaced-)met LaLa, a single mother, looking for a group and discussions that addressed the issues and concerns impacting single black parents. LaLa became a member of the Sojourner's Place, 2 group. Unfortunately, SP2 has not really taken off and the discussions envisioned to take place in this group didn't quite meet LaLa's needs. But over the past couple of weeks, LaLa and I have kept in touch giving each other pointers and advise on blogging.
Last night, I received an email from LaLa in which she gave me the links to her new blog and group specifically dedicated to single black parents! Her blog is a beautiful testimony of her desire and commitment to the black family and our black children.
Being new to this "blogging thing", I certainly had no idea of the possibilities resulting from bwb (blogging while black). While I have found Sojourner's Place to be both a cathartic and exhilarating endeavor for me personally - I have found it to truly be a place to connect and network with others just trying to make it and survive. Others just like LaLa! Therefore, I am really please to introduce to you:
Single Black Parents Lounge
A group dedicated to mature single black mothers and fathers raising their children alone with little or no support from the other parent. This is a place where you can ask for advice, give advice, let out some frustrations and share your experiences with other single parents who can relate.
Living Life as a Single Black Parent
An online support group dedicated to single black mothers & fathers. A place where single parents can unite in a friendly and drama free environment.
If you're a single black parent - or know a single black parent, you'll want to bookmark these two wonderful sites created just for you. I'm sure you'll be happy you did!
