Sojourner's Place

helping hand: much obliged and paying it forward

Posted by SjP in , ,

Its hard to believe that on Tuesday, July 1st Sojourner's Place will have been "open for business" for six whole months. When I began this adventure, I certainly had no idea what this "blogging thing" was all about. All I knew is that I needed an outlet to rant, rave, ramble, and even celebrate the things and people important to me.

Had to learn a whole new language. Feed... rank... Technorati... tags... link... cross-posting... Old School Fridays... and Wordless Wednesdays. WTH (had to learn what all those acronyms meant, too)! What had I gotten myself into? Would anybody care about what I had to say? Would anybody out there in the blogsphere even drop by Sojourner's Place, post a comment, or most of all even return? Yes, those first couple of months were very scary and very intimidating.

Then it happened! After a month of posting, surfing, and commenting I got my first comment! Oh yeah! I'm on a roll now! Then after another 2 weeks, I got another comment! Damn! What am I doing wrong? Should I stop this? Can't stop now...I'm consumed...gotta keep blogging...just got to! Then, thank you HRC! Thank you so much for delivering that
Shame on You Barack Obama rant! I wrote about it and I got 3 comments! Not just any comments - but comments from New Black Woman, Villager, and Regina's Family Seasons ! And oh what comments they were...maybe they like old Sojourner's Place!

I could go on and on about the first few months of my blogging experience. But, I don't want to bore ya'll with a whole lot of sentimental s*it; and besides that ain't the reason for this post. What's the reason? Well, last night I checked my
Technorati Rank and Authority. In January, my rank was some ungodly number like 4 or 5 million. Last night it was 86,054!! Villager! I broke that 100K mark! And my Authority is 75! Just 25 points away from my goal of 100! I'm shooting for August!

I wanted to do something special to say Much Obliged and to celebrate reaching this personal milestone. Because I have committed my life to "leaving the pile higher than I found it", I wanted to "pay that help and support forward" to those new to the blogsphere. As such, I have created this "Emblem of the Helping Hand" as a token of my appreciation for my blog mentors and a source of encouragement for those who are up and coming.

The Rules:

  1. Select 10 bloggers: 5 you consider your blogging Helping Hand then "Pay it Forward" by extending your "Helping Hand" to 5 additional bloggers in support and encouragement for their efforts.
  2. In passing on the Emblem, each recipient must provide the name of blog or blog author with a link for others to visit.
  3. Each recipient must show the Emblem and put the name and link to the blog that has given it to her or him.
  4. Link the Emblem to this post: Helping Hand: Much Obliged and Paying it Forward so that others will know it origin and impetus.
  5. If you have not already done so, show your recipients some love by adding them to your blog roll, Technorati Favorite list, or in any other way to further let them know that their blog voice is important to you and being heard.
  6. Add your name to The Helping Hand meme at my new blog entitled The Emblem of the Helping Hand and don't forget to leave a comment as a permanent record of all Helping Hand recipients.
  7. Display the rules

To my Blogging Mentors, please accept this "Emblem of the Helping Hand" as a symbol of just how much your help, support, and encouragement has meant to me during the past 6 months. As the originator of the Emblem, I'm breaking the first rule by selecting more than 5 blogs (smile).

  1. African American Opinion: much obliged for thinking that my rants and rumblings were worthy. when i think of you, i just want to say"it's nation time" !

  2. BlackPerspective.net: you help me keep it real and on track. still trying to live up to that 'e' for excellence; it was my first award! much obliged

  3. Black Tennis Pros: never knew there were so many black tennis pros! coming to your site is a joy!

  4. Electronic Village: could do a whole blog on you - the eternal optimist! the griot! you will never know just how much you have influenced and helped me...i suspect that i'm not the only one who feels this way!

  5. Francis l. Holland Blog: wow! you let me know that its quite all right to "come with it" and "come with it hard". as my mamma says, you always tell it like it t - i - is!

  6. Mrs. Grapevine: special...just special! you keep me informed and in the know! couldn't do it without you!

  7. New Black Woman: you were one of the first to leave a comment. i'll never forget the feeling that maybe i was on the right track to have warranted a comment from such an important blogger! much obliged!

  8. Regina's Family Seasons: you are simply a wonderful and much needed source of encouragement to me. whether your comments or your own post, you enlighten and lift my spirit.

  9. The Black Factor: i swear we must work at the same place! every time i visit your blog its as if you must work in the office next to mine. yours is one of the very first blogs i came upon, and there i learned that i was not alone!

  10. The Marvalus View: soaps, flavor of love, 10spot! guuurrrllll! you know that you are my rock!

  11. Vanessa: Unplugged and On the Black Hand Side : you were there before i even knew you! what can i say? you know the rest! so glad i found you!

I'm "Paying it Forward" to the following blogs. These are blogs that are doing it and doing it well. Each has a very special place reserved just for them at Sojourner's Place. I encourage you to visit, leave a comment, and if are so inclined give them a FAV. Cause we new bloggers are fragile and need your support and encouragement.

  1. Hagar's Daughters: "for women who find themselves at the well...praying, dancing, & pondering (& the men who join them here)." truly inspiring!
  2. Coffee Stained News : this blog asks the question: "Does Separation of Church and State mean we must ban Christians in Politics?"always provocative and informative.
  3. Black Women Blow the Trumpet: here you can "delve into the core issues (sociological, economic, political, psychological, intra-racial and cultural) that impact the self-actualization of black women in this country and in our original homeland." you'll be challenged here with every post.
  4. Black on Campus:"Higher Education and the African American Experience." a beautiful blog that provides both an historical and critical look at the Black experience in higher education. as a "student of higher education", i just love this blog!
  5. From My Brown Eyed View: "A sistah like myself moves around all time looking at this world we live in. I like looking in the past, the present, and into the future. There is always something to focus in on. This is the space where I plan to share my visions." our paths, thoughts, and ideas continue to cross...we got a lot in common!
  6. Notes of This Native Son: "Where Spirituality, Hip-Hop & Politics Meet!" just found you! you're blog is an inspiration, provocative, and informative.
  7. Underground Railroad Tribal Alliance: "The Underground Railroad Tribal Alliance seeks to foster scientific advancement throughout the African Diaspora." you've been there from the very start! very much obliged!

Well, my two lists keep getting longer because so many of you have been a true inspiration and support to me during these past 6 months. But if I don't want to corner the market here. So, I just close this by saying MUCH OBLIGED! VERY MUCH OBLIGED!

Speak the Truth!

sunday inspirations...letter to a young black female

Posted by SjP in ,

Much obliged Cedric who blogs over at Notes of This Native Son for pointing me to this truly inspiring piece. I pray that you will be blessed and inspired. These words are too powerful not to be shared. Be blessed on this day!

What’s up young lady. You may not know who I am but I know who you are. You see, I see your potential, I envision you accomplishing all of your dreams and goals. Anything that you set your mind to can and will be yours if you just Believe!

Believe in what you may ask? Yourself! Believe that you are the intellect which has governed civilizations for century upon century. Believe that you are the standard of beauty and not whatever images the media shells out at you. Believe that there is no task too big or too small that you can not reach for and achieve.

Realize young lady that women have always been at the helm of everything great. James Brown said it best, “this is a man’s world but it wouldn’t be nothing without a woman or a girl”. You have so many big sisters to look up to, so many sources of inspiration that have provided the framework of the strong work ethic known as womanhood.

Notice I call you young lady for these terms that I hear you referred to are not your names. You are a Queen who must demand respect, your mere presence should command respect. You must first respect yourself however, and respect your fellow sisters as well. Together you young ladies make up the future table of leadership.

God made you to be special, he made you to stand apart from the crowd. So fear not if you feel isolated or alone, look back to your big sisters who have changed the landscape of history, they once felt alone too. I write you this letter to show my admiration for you, to pay homage to the beautiful gift that the creator is bestowing upon us. Follow your dreams and believe in your path young lady, for the very thought of you reaching a tenth of your potential is an inspiration to us all!

Truly yours,Cedric D. Shine (your #1 fan)

am i not human? olympic "switch over" campaign

Posted by SjP in ,

Don't boycott watching the Olympics! Just boycott the commercials. The email below received from Dream for Darfur tells you how to participate in the "switch over" campaign!

As the world prepares to watch the 2008 Olympics in August, we can't forget about the atrocities committed in Darfur. Yet it seems many Olympic corporate sponsors are trying to do just that.

Click here to tell the Olympic sponsors to help end genocide in Darfur.

In just 43 days, China and the Olympic sponsors will kick off the Beijing Olympics. With your help, Dream for Darfur will make sure the world, the sponsors, and specifically China do not forget about the people of Darfur.

We are excited to tell you about
our new campaign, 'Switch Over to Darfur,' which will help keep the pressure on China and Olympic sponsors leading up to the Games in Beijing.

Click here to check out the new campaign and take the 'Switch Over' pledge.

Last Friday, advocates held nationwide protests outside the offices of Olympic sponsors that have remained silent about the genocide in Darfur. These events were covered by
the Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, and many other media outlets.

We believe that the privileges of Olympic sponsorship come with responsibilities. Sponsors are eager for access to China's consumers and have been working to enhance China's image as Olympic host. Sponsors are also associating themselves with all the positive values represented by the Games -- but not working to uphold those values. When asked to take action for Darfur, 16 out of 19 top Olympic sponsors chose to remain silent.

On the new 'Switch Over' website, you can let the Olympic corporate sponsors know that you intend to ignore companies that ignore Darfur.

Pledge to Switch Over from the commercials of select sponsors during the Games, and tune into Darfur starting August 8 by watching our 'Alternative Opening Ceremony' and then Mia Farrow's 'Darfur Olympics' broadcast from a Darfurian refugee camp during the first full week of the Games.

To learn more and join the campaign, visit the Switch Over website -- and pledge to help keep the spotlight on Darfur during the Games. We will keep you posted on our campaign as the Olympics near.

** Sojourner's Place joins other bloggers on this 27th day of each month in recognition of the symbolic importance of the Olympic Games and in denunciation of human rights violations across the world and specifically China, the host of this year's games.

much obliged: arte y pico award

Posted by SjP in ,

My sista blogger, Zenobia of From the Battlefield. . . ~*~Sisters, Let's Talk~*~, has humble Sojourner's Place with the Arte y Pico Award. I, too have only been blogging for a few months and I am always surprised and amazed that I even get comments let alone an award! Humbling...simply humbling. Much obliged sista for finding SjP's worthy of such a wonderful and beautiful award!

The "Arte y Pico" award, you must know that it comes with a few rules. These rules are listed below:

1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also for contributing to the blogging community, no matter what language.

2. Each awardee has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.

3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.

4. Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award: http://arteypico.blogspot.com/

5. Display these rules.

Now for the hard part. There are so many deserving blogs, that it is really hard for me to pick just 5. Lucky for me, many of them have already received this beautiful award. But, here goes. I am passing this award to:

From My Brown Eyed View: Ms. Lady Deborah brings it each and every post. She's always right on and tells it like it is. I'm sure she has no idea just how much I rely on her insight!

Black Women, Blow the Trumpet: What can I say about this blog by Lisa. Words are simply not adequate! You must take some time to visit and see for yourself. There you be enlightened, educated, and challenged!

Mind of Marcus: Marcus keeps me young at heart...and oh, what a wonderful sense of humor! Much obliged Marcus!

Hagar's Daughter: When my soul needs a lift, I can always count on HG to have a message just for me. She's definitely provided us with a place at the well!

Notes of This Native Son : Just found Cedric the other day. His is a very stirring and provocative blog.

n-word...they can't use it; can we or should we?

Posted by SjP in ,

Last week, many of us participated in a day of action to keep Dog the Bounty Hunter off the air for using the n-word. My Dog post, received a comment from Missy who just "put it out there" regarding our continued use of the n-word. As indicated in my response, I continue to be conflicted about our use of the n-word in our everyday (unprofessional) life.

Tonight, I ran across this post by H. Lewis Smith entitled A Healthy Self-Esteem is Essential at BlackNews.com. Smith puts forth several compelling arguments for eliminating the n-word from not only our vocabulary but also from our psyche. He cites that:

Some black African-Americans...understand the significance attached to a healthy self-esteem, and refuse to be referred to as a n**ger. ...they realize the term is an antagonist..., and will not...refer to themselves as such.

He further purports that rappers have poor self-esteem and ofttimes perpetuate this to their fans.
The latest exhibition of a rapper's low self-esteem is Nas' soon-to-be released video entitled "Be a N**ger Too." ...Nas extends an invitation...to join him in reinforcing dehumanization, subjugation, and oppression...to keep this word alive. Unknowingly,... he is sabotaging the sacred memories of his black ancestry in this preposterous attempt at keeping the n-word alive.

Smith brings his point home by stating that:

Myriads of...African Americans have achieved ambitious goals without the need of referring to themselves--or audience members--as the n-word.

I remain conflicted. What about you? Your thoughts?

sunday inspirations...don't give up

Posted by SjP in

I always find Joel Osteen's sermons uplifting and inspiring. I pray that you will find the message below an inspiration for you and yours.

The Scripture:
So let’s not get tired of what doing good what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. (Galatians 6:9).

The Message:

Are you believing God for something? Is it taking longer than you thought or expected? No matter how long you may have been standing, don’t give up! Your season is coming. Your harvest of blessing is on its way. It might be today, it might be tomorrow, it might be next week, next month or next year, but remember, at the right time you will experience your breakthrough. Be encouraged today because God is faithful and His promises are true. Keep standing, keep hoping, keep believing. Keep doing good. Keep declaring the promises of God over your life. Choose to be around people who are going to encourage you and fill your heart and mind with God’s Word. Let a song of praise come out of your mouth. As you continue to press on in faith and keep an attitude of victory, you will see your harvest of blessing and live as an overcomer in every area of your life.

The Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. Fill me with Your strength to keep doing good and standing firm until I see my harvest of blessing. Thank You for Your peace in my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

magic in your eyes

Posted by SjP in

Well, it finally happened! I was tagged! Yep, Mrs. Grapevine tagged me with a very interesting and fun little task. In completing the tag I learned a little something about myself and the music that soothes my soul.

The rules of this tag are very simple:

1. Put your Music Player on shuffle.

2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.

3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER WHAT!

4. After you’ve answered all of the questions, tag 3 other people and then let them know they’ve been tagged to do the MEME themselves! (If you're reading this post - consider yourself TAGGED)

Here are my answers:

1. IF SOMEONE SAYS “IS THIS OKAY” YOU SAY? I Just Want to Celebrate – Rare Earth (Not bad…I can go with that)

2. WHAT WOULD BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY? For Once in My Life – Stevie Wonder (interesting…but, I have certainly been blessed)

3. WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN A GUY/GIRL? Hurry Up this Way Again – Stylisics (not so much…like do my space)

4. HOW DO YOU FEEL TODAY? Smooth Criminal – Michael Jackson (LOL…that’s all…LOL)

5. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE’S PURPOSE? Machine Gun – Jimi Hendrix (WOW)

6. WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO? Them Changes – Buddy Miles (change is always good, never afraid of it…so I guess this fits)

7. WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS THINK OF YOU? Purple Haze – Jimi Hendrix (LOLOL…maybe way back in the day…)

8. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR PARENTS. Land of Make Believe – Chuck Mangioni (interesting…that’s all I got to say on that)

9. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT VERY OFTEN? Tell Me Something Good – Chaka Khan (hearing something good is always good…don’t bring me no bad news)

10. WHAT IS 2+2? Ma – Rare Earth (gotta think on that one)

11. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR BEST FRIEND? Lady in Red – Stevie Wonder (completely off the mark on this one!)

12. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PERSON YOU LIKE? Laid Back Kind of Girl – Maze (now this one is dead on…at least I think so, others might differ like my husband, kids, co-workers, etc. etc.)

13. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE STORY? Keep Your Head to the Sky – Rapture 7 (Lord knows I’ve had to)

14. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP? A House is Not a Home – Luther (a home is very important to me)

15. WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU SEE THE PERSON YOU LIKE? Mamma Didn’t Lie – Jan Bradley (LOL – inside joke)

16. WHAT DO YOUR PARENTS THINK OF YOU? Its All Over Now – Luther Vandross (maybe, since its only been 23 years since I stopped going to school)

17. WHAT WILL YOU DANCE TO AT YOUR WEDDING? The Debt is Settled in My Mind – Ashford and Simpson (LOL! We’re in debt that’s for sure)

18. WHAT WILL THEY PLAY AT YOUR FUNERAL? Kiss – Prince (hope so, I love that cut!)

19.WHAT IS YOUR HOBBY/INTEREST? Nobody Knows the Inside – Ashford and Simpson (if keeping things to myself is a hobby then this fits to a tee)

20. WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SECRET? I Want to Thank You – Maze (interesting...)

21. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR FRIENDS? Sad Souvenirs – Four Tops (fits some of them to a tee that’s for sure!)

22. WHAT SHOULD YOU POST THIS AS? Magic in Your Eyes – Chaka Khan (Ah! I like that)

Who did I tag? If you're reading this, I TAGGED YOU! Have fun!

michelle malkin - what's your trip?

Posted by SjP in ,

Just doing my nightly blog and news surfing and I run across an blog post entitled: Louis Farrakhan’s newspaper defends poor Michelle Obama. Hmm. Let me take a click on this one - might be a good post for the Michelle Obama Watch. Let's see what this S.O.S. author is saying.

Click. Wait. Loading. Michelle Malkin. MICHELLE MALKIN! OMG! WTH does this Fox bimbo have to say now? Did she not learn anything from the "baby momma" comment? Guess not.

If you have not had the misfortune to "stumble on to" this woman's blog - you got to go there on purpose. I mean it like her entire blog is dedicated to bashing Michelle Obama. The woman is OUT OF CONTROL! You would think that anyone who considers themselves a professional, a journalist, a purveyor of "truth" would be more dignified. But NO! Not this chick!

In the last 24 hours, Milkin posted on Michelle's appearance on the View, started a "poll" that simply states "the more America gets to know Michelle O...the less they like her; and the one that brought me to this insidious blog in the first place: Louis Farrakhan’s newspaper defends poor Michelle Obama.

So what does the great Fox goddess from the East say about the NoI's defense of Michelle Obama? Well actually, not much. She instead posts a copy of an article in the Final Call that speaks to the historical nature of Obama being the presumptive Democratic nominee for President. Oh yeah, she does have a link to the article: Right wing attacks on Michelle Obama hit new low and concludes her post with:

"Missing from Farrakhan’s rag? Any mention about the Obama camp’s
barring of those two, hijab-wearing Muslim Obama supporters. Debbie Schlussel has background on the aggrieved women."

Now, I said earlier in this post that Michelle Malkin was S.O.S. I must retract that - cause she really pretty smart. If she were truly S.O.S., she would have posted the Michelle article rather than the Barack one. You see, she feels she can bash Michelle without repercussion. But she knows she'd loose her Foxhole if she in anyway appeared to bash Dr. Dorothy Height who is quoted in the article as saying:

“In today’s world, a woman of this caliber who is the mate of one who is a nominee for president of the United States deserves all of the recognition, admiration and respect that she has so well earned,” said Dr. Dorothy I. Height, chair and president emerita of the National Council of Negro Women. “When I follow many of the stories and comments, I realize that we have come a long way, but there is a long way to go,” added Dr. Height who has known every first lady of the United States since Eleanor Roosevelt. Dr. Height referred to the wife of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) as “a woman of considerable accomplishments.”

Come on Michelle! You bad! Tell us what you think about Dr. Height's comments. You skurred? Tell me...I really want to know exactly what's your trip?

mccain's $1 million gas deal

Posted by SjP in ,

I don't have to tell you that the price of gas just keeps on going up. The rising price of oil impacts every aspect of our lives. It is a vicious, vicious cycle that results in ridiculous prices of food, clothing, and basic necessities. We're all feeling it and there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel.

Several weeks ago, Senator McCain proposed the elimination of the gas tax for the summer. Giving us a break of about $.18 cents a gallon or $30 a year. Now, he's talking about off-shore drilling. Why?

Well the
Center for Responsive Politics reports that McCain has accepted over $1 million from the oil and gas industries. It appears that several of his top advisers have lobbied for big oil. Its no wonder why his energy and environmental plans or non-plans are always in the best interest of the Shells, Exxons, and Mobiles.

The
Center for American Progress Action Fund further reports that McCain has received millions in donations from these very same companies that has continued to support the Bush administration.

This video from
theRealMcCain.com provides proof of McCain's connection to big oil. Please watch and share!

dog: got news for you! you still can't call me nigger and get paid!

Posted by SjP in , , ,

Yobachi, from BlackPerspective.net, hit the nail on the head with the head of the hammer on this one! Just as he predicted, Dog the Bounty Hunter is scheduled to re-emerge on A&E on July 16. Now, I had a very hard time trying to figure out how Dog landed a hit show about catching bail-jumping criminals on the Arts & Entertainment Network in the first place; but this move is phuqued up beyond belief.

A&E took Dog off the air for his rant and liberal use of the "N-word" because...well, Yobachi says it best:

"...the expressed reasons given on the tape about how he uses the n-word and why he didn’t want his son’s Black girl friend around.

Hence, he has made no real amends for what he won’t even acknowledge he did: that he and his crew of convicted criminals regularly used the word “nigger” with derogatory intent. He has not admitted that when his son began to date a Black woman, Dog verbally savaged her simply for being Black and for no other reason. He even initially when confronted with the recording tried to disparage Monique Shinnery’s character to justify him calling her a “fucking nigger” and not wanting her around; when he had already said in the recording that he didn’t want her to catch him using the n-word as being the reason for not wanting her around."

And this in Dog's own words...listen for yourself!

Sojourner's Place joins a long list of other Bloggers for Respect in Media. We have joined Yobachi and Afrosphere Action Coalition in the fundamental and basic belief and right that:
"Black folks should stand for this type of derogatory behavior, and that they and others of like conscious certainly shouldn’t have our money support companies who support this demeaning behavior towards Blacks in the popular culture.

Because of this lack of making amends, and taking steps to change his attitude towards Blacks and people of color; Dog should continue to be held in consequence if and until he does."

If you believe that a bounty should be put on Dog's head to keep him off the air, I urge you write and A&E and their advertisers if they insist on bringing this racist bigot back. You can learn more about this call to action at BlackPerspective.net. Be sure to read the following posts:

is gay marriage the right fight for african americans?

Posted by SjP in

I was listening to Tell Me More this morning on NPR on my way to My Side of the Plantation. The focus of this morning's conversation gay marriage as California became the first state to offer marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The broadcast raised the question of whether or not the fight to recognized same sex marriage was a fight in which the African-American community should be involved. The Rev. Yvette Flunder and Monica Trasandes, leaders in California's gay community, discuss how the news is being received by communities of color, and whether gay marriage is the "right fight."

Here's the broadcast. What do you think. Is this our fight...should it be?

flag the blog! michelle obama suicide watch

Posted by SjP in , ,

This just in from Michelle Obama Watch in its entirety!

There is a blog titled “Michelle Obama Suicide Watch” that is listening to every word that Michelle Obama speaks. It compares her purported views of America to that of Hell. The author’s method is to list quotes from Michelle and define them with one-line labels such as “Motherhood in Hell“, “Michelle Identifies Her Demons“, and “Michelle’s Inferno“. This blog’s mission can be summed up with one of its own quotes:

“UPDATES FROM HELL
We’ve been monitoring Michelle’s progress since we debuted, and we’ll keep posting until she either escapes her Inferno, loses her battle with her demons, or shuts the Hell up”
(Source)

The blogs that have acknowledge/announced “Michelle Obama Suicide Watch” found its contents to be “hilarious” and commends the author for his/her efforts. When those commenting (most of which elect to remain anonymous) on this blog are not “lmao” and “rofl”, they can be found concurring with its sentiments or throwing racially flavored sarcasms such as:

“Mee-shell ma bell has said I’m disabled by depression and will kill my self. I bees disabled and must be given SSD ’cause I can’t work.” (Source)

Is Michelle simply staying true to her reputation of being “real” or is the disrobing of the country’s “flaws” more than it can currently handle? Perhaps, if a little more sugar were added to her words they would be a little easier to digest. You be the judge.

While I'd be much obliged for a comment on this post, I urge you first to go to Michelle Obama Suicide Watch now and FLAG IT! If this blog receives enough flags, it will be removed.

sunday inspirations...open up my heart

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO MY BEST HALF!

We may not shower YOU with praise
Nor mention YOUR NAME in song,
And sometimes it seems that we forget
The joy YOU'VE spread as YOU go along,
But it doesn’t mean that we don’t know
The wonderful role that YOU HAVE had.
And away down deep in ALL OUR Dad.
There’s a place JUST FOR YOU
CAUSE YOU'RE A GREAT DAD.

Author Unknown...Adapted by SjP

This week's Sunday Inspirations is dedicated to My Best Half on this Father's Day. For the past 20 years, he had done his best to be a good Father. His love for our daughters is unmatched by any. And although he can be a bit hard - he only wants the best for them and to protect them from the perils of this world. Yes, he is My Best and Blessed Half.

I hope and pray that you will be inspired today with this post especially for you...your favorite Gospel song by your favorite Gospel singer.

wall street journal: michelle obama watch

Posted by SjP in ,

Much obliged to sister blogger and fellow AfroSpear member, Gina McCauley from What About Our Daughters?. In true Gina fashion, she has embarked upon the ominous task of creating a repository for all things Michelle Obama. Sojourner's Place congratulates Gina for having the forethought to create the Michelle Obama Watch and is proud to be one of many volunteer watchers.

The Michelle Obama Watch is a repository of all of the criticism, praise, and general chicanery thrown at Michelle Obama between now and November. If Barack wins... well we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, but for right now, we are looking at a 5 month obligation. If it has anything to do with Michelle, it will be on Michelle Obama Watch.

Already picking up steam and creating quite a stir, the
Michelle Obama Watch will be featured by the Wall Street Journal tomorrow, Sunday, June 14. Make sure you check it out. And most importantly, bookmark the Michelle Obama Watch now.

Want to be a Michelle Obama Watch volunteer? You can learn how to get involved here:
What About Our Daughters?: Michelle Obama Watch Goes Live! I hope you will join in this very important effort!
