In the post, BLACK WOMAN WALKING, black men please watch this, George Cook shares a compelling documentary video which provides an answer to "why some black women always look mean walking done the street or just don't respond?" George suggest that the video may make many men want to check their behavior when approaching a woman. Believe it or not at many times women feel threatened although I'm sure that's not the man's intention.
In watching the video, however, I was painfully reminded of the ShowTime series entitled Very Young Girls. This documentary graphically shows how underage girls who are forced, bullied and coerced into prostitution; ofttimes beginning with a "cat-call" from a pimp. VYGs also follows the efforts of former prostitute Rachel Lloyd to rescue young women from the streets with her outreach organization GEMS.
There are obviously males out there who are just plain disrespectful to sistahs and have not learned how to treat a lady. These males either have no home training or forget it as soon as they go out into the streets. They just simply need learn or re-learn how what respect is a like Vera taught to Quick in Harlem Nights.
But, for the scum that go out and prey on young teen aged girls by wooing them and then putting them out on the street - there is no empathy or sympathy. Even a jail cell is too good for these predators. They are loathsome, self-haters, and the scum of the earth for which there is no punishment can be adequately described here without being too graphic. But perhaps, Jesse Sr. might ...

I love being a weekly contributor at Michelle Obama Watch blog, founded by Gina of What About Our Daughters. If you've not had the opportunity to visit MOW, I strongly encourage you to do so. The posts provide a wealth of up-to-date information and commentary on all things about First Lady in Waiting, Mrs. Michelle Obama.
Ofttimes, the posts evoke debate between commenters and contributors. While such debate is often "lively", I do my best to be as "restrained" as possible when posting and commenting. It is simply my way of showing due respect for the blog's namesake and the purposes under which it was founded. But, This is SjP's Place, and I'm about to blow over comments made on a recent MOW post entitled, Chicanery and Foolishness: Huffington Post Calls Sasha Obama “SASSY”.
As Gina, the writer of the post, so aptly states "Where I am from “sassiness” when applied to a child is pejorative. Sassiness would get you a green switch." Yet, there were many who saw nothing wrong with the characterization of Sasha as "sassy". The following comments simply got my blood boiling.
“sassy” is a positive word about women who speak their minds.
Oh really? Let's try calling a woman (Black or White) "sassy" in the workplace one time. Just how quickly can you say "sexual harassment"? As a professional African American woman, I have to struggle each day to make sure that I am taken seriously, that my opinion matters, and that I am a meaningful and integral part of the operation. I speak my mind and for doing so, I am more times than naught called "aggressive" and yes even an ABW. I can deal with that - but, NEVER would I ever allow anyone to characterize me as "sassy" to my face.
If anyone out there in the blogosphere can name me one woman (Black or White) who has ever been characterized as "sassy" who was honestly taken seriously, I might be able to be talked down from this rant - but, I doubt it. Why? Because, I suspect that if there has ever been a woman - living, dead, Black, White, blue, grizzly or gray - who was considered "sassy" that she was NEVER taken seriously. And in the event that there came a time that she was taken seriously, I doubt that she was ever characterized as "sassy" again.
...negative sense as well as in the positive sense. No one would raise an eyebrow if a black person called a white person sassy these days…unlike years ago. Sassy is now an equal opportunity word.
"Sassy" is how I might describe a hat, dress, a handbag, a pair of shoes, or a child who thinks it appropriate to talk back to an adult or suck his/her teeth when an adult is talking to him/her. A "sassy" hat, dress, handbag, or shoes I'd wear. A sassy kid - well let's just say that my eyebrow would be the last thing I would think about raising if that kid were mine.
"Sassy" is not something that I would call a woman of any color who was not on the silver screen, television, or stage portraying a character akin to Carmen Jones, Holly Golightly, Margaret 'Maggie the Cat' Pollitt, or Lady Eloise. Personally, I consider "sassy" as inappropriate as calling a woman a b*tch - which is now an equal opportunity word used by many women much younger than myself. But I will say this, everyone as an "equal opportunity" NOT to call me either.
I think its [sassy] cute and endearing.
Cute and endearing? Oh! Like the N-word "sassy" is now a term of endearment. A term that is appropriate to call women and young girls. I think not! It is neither cute or endearing. To paraphrase Gina, sassiness will get you a switch at best (and let me add) or a very clear view of the palm of my hand at worst.
In a positive gesture to move us forward (and I am dead serious here), perhaps you could collaborate on an article — what are the 50 worst words, phrases, comments that today’s writers (predominantly white, of course) could use that are considered offensive to readers of Michelle Obama Watch.
Now this last one took the cake! Once again "we" are called upon to open the lines of communication in an effort of educating those who continue to stand behind the excuses of "I just didn't know" or "It was just a joke. Why are you so offended?". These are ofttimes the same folks who want to "touch my hair" or expect me to be the "spokeswoman" for all things African American.
But, lets just say that this exercise were to be done. O.K. But, remember, you can only come up with the 50 worst words, phrases, and comments for today's writers (predominately white, of course) should not use for fear of being offensive. Open up the lines of communication - but only by the rules pre-set and determined by you? Typical! I think not!
Look! I'm sorry - but it is not my job or my inclination to educate you about being Black in America. But, I will give you one piece of advise in your quest to not be offensive. When you want to use a word, phrase, or comment to describe an African American or an African American characteristic, "Google" it first. If you don't see the word, phrase, or comment you want to use portrayed on any one of over one thousand Black blogs used in a positive light - DON'T USE IT.
As I said at the beginning of this post, I love being a contributor at Michelle Obama Watch. Therefore, I have to remember my "home training" and "be good" when I'm out in public.Obliged to you for hearing me,

A couple of weeks ago, I started getting emails from the Republican Party encouraging me to vote early and for Lt. Dan and the Ice Queen. In response to the first email received, I politely told my state's Republican Party that I had indeed voted and indicated that I was surprised that I was just now getting any information from them. My second response was not as polite as it was "from" the Ice Queen herself. Devoid of any four-letter words, I let her know that I not only voted early but that I had in fact voted for THAT ONE! I let her know that had the Republican Party tried to garner my vote earlier that my choice might have been different - YEAH! RIGHT! But anyway, I wrongly expected NOT to receive anymore emails from her or anyone else from the Republican Party.
So, can anyone tell me why I received yet another email from these folks? And if that weren't bad enough, they have the audacity to ask ME for a donation of up to $5,000 (isn't the limit $2,300 hundred?). But, I ain't finished. Hold on to your hats and sit down cause you just ain't gon believe this. The subject line of the email states: Mr. Obama Would Have Voted For Genocide!

Mr. Obama says this was a mistake. Translation Mr. Obama would have voted for genocide. Really pissed me off as it was very clear from their response that the care and well-being of the Clydesdales mean more than the blood and human suffering occurring in Darfur. To paraphrase they said that they are hopeful that diplomatic conversations and Bush's efforts will put and end to the crisis. Yeah! Right! So I tore them a new one!

Am I surprised that HRC would say this? I would have been 6 months ago - but, now nothing that this woman would say or do surprises me. O.K, I gotta stop watching Fox, Bill O'Reilly, and Sean Hannity! But if I do, how would I ever have clear and convincing evidence that pure unadulterated racist ignorance exists disguised as "fair and balanced" reporting?
I've just seen two segments from tonight's O'Reilly's Factor. The first segment, of course, was more Obama bashing - so what's new? Absolutely NOTHING! During this segment, one Republican woman - white of course; and one Obama supporter...you guessed it - were having it out with O'Reilly trying to be the mediator. Anyway - sorry, didn't catch their names - but the segment was spent undermining African Americans supporting Obama. Yes, you guessed it! Those of us supporting Obama are only doing so because he's Black! The Republican, and O'Reilly, continued to discount the evidence that Obama has garnered support from people across color and gender lines. Hey! It ain't many of us in Utah, Alaska, OR Iowa! And ain't no way he could have the popular, delegate, and superdelegate votes if we were the only folks voting! But, that didn't matter to these two numb-skulls (The Repub and O'Reilly)! But get this, my Republican gendered-sister said that (and I paraphrase) that the race issue was going to kill the Democrats because they divide along racial lines and talk about it! And that's the reason the Republican Party doesn't have that problem. As my kids say OMG! OMG! And as I say WTF!
So, I should have turned. Right? NOOOOO, not me! The Obama-bashing was over so what else could they do? Well, just before O'Reilly broke for commercial he showed a YouTube video of a high school dance in Memphis. Yeah, you guessed it (if you haven't seen it already) - the teenagers were gyrating, bumping, grinding, and simulating sexual acts on the dance floor. When he comes back from commercial, he has the Interim Superintendent of Memphis Schools as a guest. O'Reilly begins to tell this man that there's something wrong with the school...something wrong with the students! And THAT something has been wrong with both for a very long time. He badgers the superintendent - then shows more of the video. O'Reilly then continues to and all but calls for the principal's head on a platter. And of course, the students seen were Black. The superintendent is Black. The principal is Black. D*MN!!!
Now, I'm not going to find the video to watch it again or post it here. Just won't add more fuel to the fire for the folks in Memphis. But, I have no doubt that they will take the appropriate and necessary steps to deal with what is not only embarrassing but certainly infuriating. If they were mine - there would certainly be some real a*s whooping going on! But, I am providing a link to the list of companies advertising on Fox provided by Eddie Griffin; because this O'Reilly segment is yet another illustration of this network's continued racist reporting! It was not only NOT NEWS but also NOT NECESSARY! Oh yeah, that link also has a petition if you're interested.
Perhaps Mr. O'Reilly could hook the Memphis School Officials up with some of their counterparts who have experience embarrassing acts at the hands of their student. I am sure that officials from the schools listed below have resolved all of the problems they may have had with their students.

Pearl, Miss. Two students killed and seven wounded by Luke Woodham, 16, who was also accused of killing his mother. He and his friends were said to be outcasts who worshiped Satan.
West Paducah, Ky. Three students killed, five wounded by Michael Carneal, 14, as they participated in a prayer circle at Heath High School.
Stamps, Ark. Two students wounded. Colt Todd, 14, was hiding in the woods when he shot the students as they stood in the parking lot.
Jonesboro, Ark. Four students and one teacher killed, ten others wounded outside as Westside Middle School emptied during a false fire alarm. Mitchell Johnson, 13, and Andrew Golden, 11, shot at their classmates and teachers from the woods.
Edinboro, Pa. One teacher, John Gillette, killed, two students wounded at a dance at James W. Parker Middle School. Andrew Wurst, 14, was charged.
Springfield, Ore. Two students killed, 22 others wounded in the cafeteria at Thurston High School by 15-year-old Kip Kinkel. Kinkel had been arrested and released a day earlier for bringing a gun to school. His parents were later found dead at home.
Littleton, Colo. 14 students (including killers) and one teacher killed, 23 others wounded at Columbine High School in the nation's deadliest school shooting. Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, had plotted for a year to kill at least 500 and blow up their school. At the end of their hour-long rampage, they turned their guns on themselves.
Fort Gibson, Okla. Four students wounded as Seth Trickey, 13, opened fire with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun at Fort Gibson Middle School.
Lake Worth, Fla. One teacher, Barry Grunow, shot and killed at Lake Worth Middle School by Nate Brazill, 13, with .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol on the last day of classes.
Santee, Calif. Two killed and 13 wounded by Charles Andrew Williams, 15, firing from a bathroom at Santana High School.
Williamsport, Pa. Elizabeth Catherine Bush, 14, wounded student Kimberly Marchese in the cafeteria of Bishop Neumann High School; she was depressed and frequently teased.
Granite Hills, Calif. One teacher and three students wounded by Jason Hoffman, 18, at Granite Hills High School. A policeman shot and wounded Hoffman.
Caro, Mich. Chris Buschbacher, 17, took two hostages at the Caro Learning Center before killing himself.
Red Lion, Pa. James Sheets, 14, killed principal Eugene Segro of Red Lion Area Junior High School before killing himself.
Cold Spring, Minn. Two students are killed at Rocori High School by John Jason McLaughlin, 15.
Red Lake, Minn.Jeff Weise, 16, killed grandfather and companion, then arrived at school where he killed a teacher, a security guard, 5 students, and finally himself, leaving a total of 10 dead.
Essex, Vt. Christopher Williams, 27, looking for his ex-girlfriend at Essex Elementary School, shot two teachers, killing one and wounding another. Before going to the school, he had killed the ex-girlfriend's mother.
Bailey, Colo. Adult male held six students hostage at Platte Canyon High School and then shot and killed Emily Keyes, 16, and himself.
Cazenovia, Wis. A 15-year-old student shot and killed Weston School principal John Klang.
Tacoma, Wash. Douglas Chanthabouly, 18, shot fellow student Samnang Kok, 17, in the hallway of Henry Foss High School.
Oxnard, California. A 14-year-old boy shot a student at E.O. Green Junior High School causing the 15-year-old victim to be brain dead.

A couple of days ago, I was surfing the net and ran across a website called American Thinker. There, I read an article entitled Obama and Wright project their bias on all African Americans. O.K., so I should have stopped at the title - but NO! I had to go and read the whole d*mn thing!
The article, as one would suspect, slams Obama. Slams Wright. Slams their association with each other and with Farrakhan. So basically nothing new. But, just as I got to the first sentence of the last paragraph, I truly lost it. Here's what the author wrote:
I refuse to believe that the majority of African Americans cling to hate and rage just as I refuse to believe Wright's outrageous claims about the mental and physical differences between the races. (I had to listen to the speech twice to confirm that Wright stated that African Americans are less genetically predisposed to logical analytical thinking than are white people.)
I was so enraged that I looked all over the site to find where I could post a comment. No such luck. But after about 20 minutes I found the "contact" link and immediately penned my outraged opinion. Here's what I wrote:
This statement is evidence that the author along with much of white America STILL doesn't get it! I find it very ironic and disheartening that the interpretation Shapiro received was that Blacks are less genetically predisposed to logical analytical thinking than whites rather than whites are less genetically predisposed to creative thinking. She provides yet another example of exactly what Wright was talking about on Sunday - the predisposed reasoning that White is Right and anything or anyone who is not white is both deficient and inferior.
O.K. I said my say...now I'm done with it. NOOOOO! She, of course, would not let it go. She had to respond - because as she advised me - she is an opinionated woman. (And your point is what?) So, as a result, I have been in an email exchange with Peggy Shapiro, the author of this article ALL D*MN DAY! AND SHE STILL DOESN'T GET IT! Seriously, the emails began at noon today and I've sent my last response just minutes before writing this post.
Ms Shapiro doesn't get or refuses to get that her phrase "less genetically predisposed...than whites" is in an of itself racist. She fails to see or refuses to see that her terminology of "less genetically predisposed" implies diminished intellectual capacity based on genetics. But, yet when arguing against the research Wright spoke about during the NAACP event, she elects not to point out - using her own phraseology and spin on Wright's "different" analogy - that whites, therefore, would be considered "less genetically predisposed" to creative thinking and learning than African Americans. But yet she was very quick to point out that she has been an educator for 31 years (so she should know genetically predisposed is split infinitives, and therefore incorrect grammatically). Put me in my place did she! Naught! I was just as quick to inform her that I, too, have been an educator for 34 years with a whole bunch of letters behind my name, too.
You would not believe how much Ms. Shapiro has told me about herself today (come to think about it, you probably would believe it)...but, I'm not going to put her business out here in cyberspace. I'll let her do that. But, seriously, the only argument she provided against my fury is that the research Wright spoke about wasn't valid. Ahhhh! Do I care if the results were valid or not? H*LL TO THE NAW!!! What I care about and what I've told this educated woman for the last 9 hours is that what Wright and the research claim as DIFFERENT she has termed LESS GENETICALLY PREDISPOSED!!! How simple is that!
Ya'll, I need some help over here because if I'm off-base, you need to tell me! Otherwise...I about to loose it!

It will never cease to amaze me just how much white folks take their white privilege for granted; and Barbara Waters's "come clean" announcement on Oprah is just one more example of this. It seems Walters wanted to come clean about an affair she had with Senator Edward Brooke of Massachusetts over 30 years ago. And she does so, without any regard to the impact this revelation would have on Brooke's, or his family.
A moderate Republican from Massachusetts who took office in 1967, Brooke was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate. Both he and Walters knew that public knowledge of their affair could have ruined his career as well as hers, Walters says.
The Associated Press article breaking this story, makes no mention of whether there were attempts to contact Brookes before writing or going on Oprah and telling all of hers and his business. One can only assume that since this is not mentioned, that she nor her publicist thought that detail important. Further, the article does not speak to any mention from Walters what part this affair may have played on Brooke's first marriage which, ended in divorce. What appears to be foremost in her mind, however, is that she remembers Brooke's as being "exiting" and "brilliant". And when asked if she loved him - as if that was even important - Walters responded that she thinks she was "infatuated".
Walters is privy to a variety of venues through which she could have shared her jungle fever experience. She could have promoted her book via the View. She could have exposed this torrid affair on one of her primetime specials. But, instead she does so on Oprah. The one show that is known for creating "rags to riches" stories and boosting authors right to the best seller list. No, doubt Walters is not stupid and has just ensured that "Auditions" will be a best seller before it hits the shelves. But, Walters also showed that she is insensitive to anyone other than her own self interest and promotion.
She has no problem with hiding the identity of a friend who advised to stop the affair - but is quite comfortable with exposing Brooke. She chokes up when speaking about her mentally retarded sister - but shows no remorse for the part she may have played in breaking up an African American man's family. Yet, she offers no apologies to his family for the part that she played and now will have to play as this story garners more and more momentum. She will come out of this smelling like a rose and Brooke's...well, thank God he lost that 3rd bid for the Senate just before the affair ended.
Shame on you Oprah for not asking her if she felt or feels any remorse. Shame on you for not taking up the mantel for women and/or men and children whose lives have been destroyed because of infidelity. But, I know, she's BaBa WaWa. She doesn't have to be remorseful. She doesn't have to answer for her actions. After all, she can do what she wants to do without repercussion, because as they say "she's free, white, and 21"!

I've been a frustrated Black woman blogger since yesterday. I tried the new draft feature in Blogger for my Old School Friday post Thursday night. But when I looked at it yesterday - everything was all out of place! Frankie was there! Thank goodness - but... Oh well, I think I've at least put a band-aide on the problem - but it looks like I can only have 2 posts on a page for a while. We'll see.
